Veteran Nollywood actress Apostle Dr Eucharia Anunobi has revealed that a fellow actress attempted to have her removed from the cast of Glamour Girls 2, one of the most commercially successful Nigerian films of the 1990s, in an act of professional jealousy she says shaped her understanding of the entertainment industry.
Speaking on The Honest Bunch Podcast, Anunobi said she had already signed a contract to play the character Anita in the sequel when the unnamed colleague spotted her script and questioned her involvement.
“She looked at my script and asked who gave it to me,” Anunobi said, recalling the actress’s visible surprise at her casting. The colleague subsequently approached the producer directly and requested that Anunobi be replaced.
The producer refused, and Anunobi went on to deliver one of her most recognised performances in the film.
“It helped me realise that when you have a bright star, even people who already have their own success can still be envious,” she said, describing the incident as a defining lesson in the realities of the entertainment business.
Anunobi also spoke about how she funded her way through university before acting became her livelihood. She said her height and distinctive features drew attention in the fashion industry, where she carved out a profitable modelling career while still a student.
“I realised I had unique features, height, and shape, and I maximised it,” she said. She frequently opened fashion show runways, handling the most dramatic designs of the night, and earned enough to cover her tuition and living expenses without financial support from family.
“I would say I was a rich student because I made money to finance my schooling,” she said.
It was through those fashion industry connections that Anunobi was eventually introduced to acting, a career that would later make her one of the most recognisable faces in Nollywood’s golden era.
