From 25 September to 3 October, the EU Delegation to Ghana will be organising the “EU Climate Diplomacy Week”. This year, the week is dedicated to Regreening Ghana with activities being implemented in Accra and Kumasi.

A release from the EU Delegation to Ghana copied to News Ghana indicates that, planting trees, awareness activities at schools, a roundtable discussion on regreening the city, a workshop on youth and reforestation and a beach clean-up are some of the events that will take place during the week.

According to the release, “The Climate Diplomacy Weeks are organized all over the world by EU Delegations to create awareness on the impact of climate change in the world. They are also meant to strengthen the global response to the threat of climate change in the context of sustainable development.

Last year, the week was dedicated to reducing, reusing and recycling waste. This year, the theme is reforestation, with the slogan #RegreeningGhana.

The week is being organised in close partnership with Accra Municipal Assembly, Kumasi Municipal Assembly and Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation (MESTI).

Events will have the participation of the Deputy Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Patricia Appiagey, Accra Mayor, Mohammed Adjei Sowah, Kumasi Mayor, Osei Assibey Antwi and the Ghanaian International Model, Victoria Michaels.

Diana Acconcia, the EU Ambassador and Embassies from the EU Member States in Ghana will also be present.

It will be a week full of activities being implemented by different organisations, such as Plastic Punch, WeCare, ComCashew and Greenway International Foundation.

The activities range from tree planting to beach clean-up:

•A beach cleaning at Jamestown
•60 trees, representing the EU and the 28 Member States and Ghana will be planted in the cities of Accra and Kumasi
•20 awareness workshops on regreening and tree planting will be conducted at selected schools in Accra, Asokwa and Kumasi, for 900 students
•4 workshop stations on “Designing for our Future”, for 80 students
•One workshop on youth and reforestation “Regreening our Future” will be held in Kumasi
•A roundtable discussion on “Regreening the City” with a theatre on reforestation will close the week in Accra”
