Ethiopian President Mulatu Teshome left Ethiopia on Monday for an official visit to Cuba.

During his stay in Cuba as of Monday, Teshome is expected to discuss further strengthening the relations between the two historically connected nations, the Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement issued on Monday.

Further strengthening ties in the education, health and technologies sectors are said to be the major topics to be discussed, it was noted.

The two countries are also expected to sign various agreements as part of the visit, the ministry indicated.

Ethiopia and Cuba, which were close partners during the liberation struggles in Africa, have forged strong relations over the past decades.

Thousands of Ethiopians were awarded scholarship to study in Cuba in the 1970s and 1980s, particularly in sectors such as health, education and agriculture. Enditem
