Ethiopia’s national air carrier Ethiopian Airlines (ET) is to add the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen as its sixth flight destination in China.

Speaking to Xinhua on Thursday, Tewolde Gebremariam, CEO of ET, says with China being an important market for the airlines, the latest destination makes business sense.

However, Gebremariam declined to disclose the exact date for the inaugural flight to Shenzhen popularly called China’s “Silicon valley” for its reputation as innovation and entrepreneurship center.

His comments comes just two months after Ethiopian Airlines started flights to Chengdu, capital of Sichuan province and a popular tourist attraction for Chinese and foreign tourists.

Ethiopian Airlines currently has five destinations in China, being Beijing, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Chengdu and Guangzhou.

Ethiopian Airlines was the first African carrier and the fourth in the world to fly to China back in 1973. Enditem
