The Management of Ethiopian Airlines regrets to confirm that its flight ET 302 schedule service from Addis Ababa to Nairobi was involved in an accident on Sunday, March 10 around Bishoftu (Debre Zeit).

The aircraft B-737-800MAX with registration number ET- AVJ took off at 08:38 am local time from Addis Ababa, Bole International Airport and lost contact at 08:44am.

A statement issued in Accra by the Airline said at this time search and rescue operations were in progress and “we have no confirmed information about survivors or any possible causalities.”

It said Ethiopian Airlines staff would be sent to the accident scene and would do everything possible to assist the emergency services.

The statement said It was believed that there were 149 passengers and 8 crew onboard the flight but “we are currently confirming the details of the passenger manifest for the flight.”

It said Ethiopian Airlines was establishing a passenger information center and telephone number would be available shortly for family or friends of those, who may have been on flight ET.

The statement said Ethiopian Airlines would release further information as soon as it is available.

It said the Group CEO deeply regrets the fatal accident involved on ET 302.

The Group CEO who was at the accident scene regrets to confirm that there were no survivors.

The statement expressed his profound sympathy and condolences to the families and loved ones of passengers and crew who lost their lives in this tragic accident.
