Czech environmental groups said Monday they have filed a suit against a nuclear power station for insufficient scrutiny of safety in a move that could halt the expansion of the plant.CZECH REPUBLIC

The concerns of anti-nuclear campaigners had not been sufficiently considered, according to the chairwoman of the group South Bohemian Mothers against Nuclear Danger, Monika Machova-Wittingerova, who labelled the proceedings so far “a farce.”

The legal action could halt Czech government plans to expand the site in the South Bohemian village of Temelin, just 60 kilometres from the German border.

The government would like to relaunch the billion-euro project after an earlier plan failed.

The current facility has been widely criticized by environmental groups following several incidents.
