He expressed this sentiment speaking on TV3’s “agenda” on the state of Ghana football.

According to the Member of Parliament, Ghana has over the years selected a full team of Europe-based players who come together to train for at most 10 days and then represent the country in competitions.

“You will realize that players of the Black Stars are always invited from Europe. These players do not play together for long but they go to represent Ghana hence our drought,” he told TV3’s Matilda Asante Asiedu on agenda.

Ghana has not been able to lift the prestigious AFCON trophy for the last thirty three years and up this have raised concerns amongst citizens and football enthusisats.

But Hon. O.B Amoah believes the failure to parade local players who could train together for long to become a team, is the reason owed for the failure to end the trophy drought.

He observed that, Egypt who have won the AFCON for seven times and Zambia who won the 28th edition paraded mostly local-based players hence their victory in AFCON over the years.

The former deputy minister pointed the need to assemble local players, prepare them as a team adding that, the four trophies Ghan has won was virtually a local based team.

Ghana’s Black Stars is representing the country in Equatorial Guinea at this year’s AFCON and are piped in Group C against Africa’s best team,Algeria,Senegal and South Africa.
