The Kotoka International Airport (KIA) land area?has been declared a security zone.

The declaration comes as a joint decision, which was?the result of a stakeholders? meeting that specifically?addressed encroachment on airports lands.

Held on November 27, 2014, the meeting was co chaired?by Tony Lithur, Board Chairman of the Ghana?Airports Company Ltd (GACL) and Alhaji Salifu?Osman, Deputy National Security Coordinator.

It was attended by a number of organizations namely,?the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), the?National Security, Town and Country Planning, the?Electricity Company of Ghana, the Ministry of Local?Government, the Lands Commission, among others.

The issue of encroachment on airport lands has been?a long-standing one, with encroachers always ignoring?warnings to halt their activities.
