Dana Eden, the Emmy-winning Israeli television producer and co-creator of the Apple TV Plus spy thriller Tehran, has been found dead in an Athens hotel room at age 52 while overseeing production of the show’s fourth season.
Eden was discovered unresponsive in her hotel room in central Athens on Sunday, 15 February 2026, by her brother after she failed to respond to messages. She had been staying at the hotel since 4 February while supervising filming for the series.
Greek police have launched an investigation to determine the cause of death and have ordered an autopsy. Authorities collected security camera footage and testimony from hotel staff as part of the investigation. Local police officials told international media that preliminary evidence suggests suicide, though no official cause of death has been confirmed.
The production company behind Tehran, Donna and Shula Productions, which Eden co-founded, issued a statement expressing shock at her sudden passing. The company also addressed speculation circulating on social media platforms regarding the circumstances of her death.
The production company stated that rumors suggesting a criminal or politically motivated death are false and unfounded. The company called on media and the public not to publish unverified theories and to act with responsibility and sensitivity during a difficult time for Eden’s family, friends, and colleagues.
Tehran is an Israeli espionage drama series that follows a Mossad agent working undercover in Iran’s capital. The show won the International Emmy Award for Best Drama Series in 2021, becoming the first Israeli series to receive the honor.
The series has attracted prominent international stars including Glenn Close in season two and Hugh Laurie in season three, which premiered on Apple TV Plus in January 2026. Production of the fourth season was underway in Athens at the time of Eden’s death.
Athens serves as a filming location for Tehran because Israeli citizens are banned from visiting Iran and the Greek capital bears visual similarities to Tehran in certain areas. The show films dialogue in Hebrew, Persian, and English.
Eden co-created Tehran alongside Moshe Zonder and Maor Kohn and served as executive producer through Donna and Shula Productions, the company she co-founded with longtime business partner Shula Spiegel. The partnership produced more than 40 television series and films over 18 years in both scripted and documentary formats.
The Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation (Kan) issued a statement mourning Eden’s passing, describing her as one of the senior figures in Israel’s television industry. The broadcaster said Eden played a central role in creating and leading some of the corporation’s most prominent and influential productions during her more than 30-year career.
Tehran premiered in Israel on public channel Kan 11 in June 2020 and launched internationally on Apple TV Plus in September 2020. The series has been renewed for a fourth season, with production ongoing in Greece at the time of Eden’s death.
The third season of Tehran concluded its eight-episode run on Apple TV Plus in late February 2026. The series follows Mossad agent Tamar Rabinyan as she attempts to reinvent herself and win back the agency’s support after going rogue at the end of season two.
Eden’s death occurred during a period of heightened global attention to the series, which addresses themes of espionage and geopolitical tensions between Israel and Iran. The show has received critical acclaim for its production values and performances, earning positive reviews from international media outlets.
The status of production for Tehran’s fourth season remains unclear following Eden’s death. The Israeli Broadcasting Corporation indicated that filming represents a complex and significant production that Eden had traveled to Greece to closely monitor.
Eden is survived by her brother and other family members. The Israeli embassy in Athens confirmed it is in contact with Eden’s family to provide assistance during this period.
