Member of Parliament for Juaboso Constituency Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has suggested that the jersey to be used by the senior national team, the Black Stars, at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil should have an embossment of President John Dramani Mahama?s picture in order to showcase ?the first symbol of this country?.

He was contributing to a debate on the floor of Parliament on Thursday, November 21, 2013 after Kobla Mensah Woyome, the Chairman of the Youth and Sports Select Committee, had laid a paper congratulating the team for their qualification to the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Isaac Kwame Asiamah, a Ranking Member of the Committee and MP for Atwima Mponua Constituency, was worried about the spotting of President Mahama?s picture on garbs of the supporters, insisting it was a recipe or division in the country.

?I don?t think it is good for our soccer and it is good for all of us. Black Stars is for all of us. It is unfair to do that.?

However, in his contribution, the Juaboso MP said the name of the president and the people of Ghana will continue to follow the Black Stars.

?The president is the first symbol of this country and as such we have to hold that and respect it. We should not be seen making issues with having a sitting president just being shown a picture on a T-shirt,? he said, suggesting that President Mahama?s picture should be on the national team?s jersey at the world cup.
