Two New Patriotic Party (NPP), Members of Parliament for the Abuakwa South and North Constituency, Hon. Atta Akyea and Hon. Joseph??Boakye Danquah Adu respectively in the Eastern Region,??are very hot as a result of a directive from the East Akyem Municipal Assembly to put an embargo on their Common fund for not attending general assembly meeting.

According to the Presiding Member of the assembly, Hon. Kodjo Adukpo the two MPs for the area has failed woefully to attend assembly meetings which are a violation of the standing orders of the assembly concept.

?Our two MPs have failed to attend meetings to deliberate on issues that affect the assembly. Their absence is a violation of the standing orders of the assembly concept? Adukpo pointed out.

Hon. Adukpo explained that per Act 462 of the model standing orders of the decentralization concept, it behooves on members of the assembly to take decisions on absentee MPs thereby making it biding on them.

Confirming the two MPs absenteeism during assembly meetings, Hon. Boamah Darko, an assemblyman for Adadientam/Ahwenease electoral area said Hon. Atta Akyea has attended their meetings only once and sometimes send the NPP constituency chairman to represent him whiles Hon. J.B Danquah Adu has never been there before since he was voted in office as the MP for Abuakwa North constituency.

?Hon. Atta Akyea has just attended one of our meetings while Hon. J.B Danquah has never attended any of our meetings before ever since he was voted as an MP for the Abuakwa North Constituency? Hon. Boamah Darko stated.

Hon. Adukpo further averred that if an assemblyman absent him or herself from sitting at three consecutive times, the law implies that there should be a new election to replace them.

He added that if the offender should be a district or municipal chief executive (MDCE), they are required to impeach him or her base on a vote of no confidence.

Hon. Adukpo warned that the decision would be implemented if they fail to attend the next general meeting of the assembly.

However, attempts by the paper to hear the side of the two legislators proved futile since they did not respond to text messages and calls placed to them.??Stay tuned
