Elon Musk, Tesla’s CEO, announced on Monday that the company is postponing its Robotaxi event to incorporate a significant design change to the vehicle’s front and showcase additional innovations.
Musk responded on his X social media platform to speculation about the event’s timing, revealing the delay and design update. He did not specify a new date for the Robotaxi launch event.
“I requested what I think is an important design change to the front, and the extra time allows us to show off a few other things,” Musk stated.
Tesla’s stock saw a nearly 5 percent increase following Musk’s announcement. Bloomberg News had previously reported that the event, initially scheduled for August 8th, had been rescheduled to October.
Earlier this year, Musk announced plans for the robotaxi event shortly after Tesla cancelled its long-awaited affordable vehicle in favour of continuing development on self-driving robotaxis using the same platform.
Details about Tesla’s robotaxi have been sparse. Musk has indicated that some vehicles will be Tesla-owned and operated. In contrast, others will be owned by individuals and rented out via Tesla’s network.
