The Juaso Circuit Court, presided over by Mr. Fredrick Tetteh, has sentenced a man arrested for illegally connecting power to his room to a fine of GH¢240.

The country’s power distributor ECG has among many things blamed the worsening energy crisis on the activities of people like Augustine Opoku who for months and some times years consume electricity illegally, thereby creating huge debt for the company as well as reducing supply to consumers who pay their bills.

Court Judge how ever ordered Augustine Opoku to additionally sign a bond to be of good behaviour for 12 months or enjoy serving a 12 months jail term in the event that he breaches the bond.

He pleaded guilty to “using a service without authority contrary to the Public Utilities Regulation Commission Act 538”.

Chief Inspector Dennis Duku told the court that the crime was detected by officers of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), who had gone to the house of the convict to conduct routine checks.
