The Volta Regional branch of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is gradually moving away from the use of radial network to mesh.

This has become necessary to ensure flexibility in the network towards efficient and effective service delivery, Mr Bernard Tetteh, the Volta Regional Engineer of the company, told newsmen on Wednesday at a media engagement.

He said the mesh or loop network would help the company to isolate faulty lines for maintenance without having to put unaffected areas off.

Mr Tetteh said Asiekpe, Aflao, Kpando and Hohoe were already experiencing the new network system and that plans were afoot to cover remaining parts of the region.

He said the company was also changing all wood poles into steel tubular ones due to interminable destruction of the wood poles by bushfires.

He said in 2016 more than 100 ECG poles were burnt by bushfires in the region and called on chiefs and opinion leaders to speak against the practice.

The media was taken through operations of the company and efforts at enhancing service delivery.
