The Campaign for Democracy (CD), South-East has urged Federal Government to invite the Economic and Finance Crime Commission (EFCC) inside the shady deals going on at the various water projects executed by the Anambra State Government.
?Till today, none of the water schemes claimed to be executed by the present administration of Anambra State is running or serving the people as meant of the multi-billion naira spent so on water provision,?? CD said in a statement.
The statement, which was issued to newsmen on Friday in Awka, Anambra State, was signed by Dede Uzor A. Uzor, Chairman, CD, South-East Region.
?EFCC should extend its discreet investigation to the multi-billion water projects executed by the Gov. Peter Obi-led administration.
?Most of them are performing very below average; it is more of 30 per cent performance after our recent investigations
?Those investigated included Awka water scheme,  Udoka Housing estate Water project; Nibo water scheme and Nimo water scheme.
?Others are Enugwu Ukwu and Abagana, the Awkuzu water schemes as well as Ifite Dunu scheme and  Agulu water scheme.
?The EFCC should centre its investigations in these areas where the N3.5 billion had been purported earmarked by the state government,?? it said.
CD also urge the EFCC to extend its investyigation on the alleged plot by the state government to sponsor a bill and to repeal the edict establishing the Anambra State Water Corporation.
?As well as another ploy to use new water law to hand-over the World Bank assisted multi-million naira  Onitsha Greater Water Scheme to a contractor Paul-B, using a new corporate name BIRSA, to convert the water scheme to a personal property under the guise of the Private-Public Partnership (PPP) initiative without the real stakeholders in the water corporation industry,?? the statement further said.
CD calls on Anambra government to provide compensation for the families of 215 workers of water corporation, which had died between 2006 and 2013.
?There should be immediate restatement of 104 staff of the Anambra State Water Corporation; which have their appointment relieved in a controversial manner by the state government,?? it said.
