The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) will commence reconstruction of eight collapsed high-tension transmission towers near Ejisu in September 2024, following months of planning.

The damaged structures, which fell in March, disrupted a critical power link between the Anwomaso Bulk Supply Point and Akyawkrom Substation.

ECG has finalized discussions with Indian contractor BEST POWER on project mobilization, funding, and safety protocols. Ing. Peter Fletcher, ECG’s Ashanti Sub-Transmission General Manager, emphasized the need for community cooperation and preventive measures like safety barriers to avoid future incidents. The company plans scheduled weekly outages to minimize service interruptions during the repair works.

This infrastructure rehabilitation forms part of ECG’s broader strategy to enhance grid reliability in Ghana’s power-demanding Ashanti Region, where electricity consumption continues to grow steadily.
