Kidnappers of Auguster Douglas-Ayam, elder sister to the Senior Special Adviser to the President on Research, Documentation and Strategy, Mr. Oronto Douglas, on Thursday spoke with the family demanding N500 million.
Douglas-Ayam?s captors contacted the husband of their victim and demanded N500m ransom to free the 48-year-old woman.
A nine-man gang abducted Douglas-Ayam on Monday night  at her foodstuffs shop in Ogbia town, headquarters of Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
It was learnt that efforts by the family to contact the kidnappers again through the number they used to call the husband had not been successful..
But the spokesman for the Bayelsa State Police Command, Mr. Alex Akhigbe, said he was not aware of the kidnappers? demand of N500m.
Akhigbe said: ?I would not know because apart from the anti-kidnap unit, other squads are also involved in the search-and-rescue mission.?
Meanwhile, The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta has claimed that it made accidental contact with the kidnappers of Douglas.
MEND in a statement signed by its spokesman, Jomo Gbomo, and issued on Thursday via electronic mail, said the abductors of sister to the President?s aide were seeking ransom before their victim could be released.
The militant group also said that the abductors were using the kidnapping of Douglas? sister to register their displeasure over the display of flamboyance during the burial of Pa Douglas.
?The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) has made accidental contact with the abductors of the sister of Mr Oronto Douglas, Special Advisor to President Goodluck Jonathan on Research and Strategy.
?The gang in addition to seeking ransom wants to use the kidnap to express their disgust due to the ostentation they witnessed during the burial of Pa Douglas.
?This included the abuse of military helicopters, which were used as a social shuttle service to ferry guests when such could have been put to better use.
?As we do not wish to be dragged into playing the role of an intermediary with kidnapers, we have declined their request to get involved based on principles. We appeal to them to release her healthy.”
