NIGER State Governor Babangida Aliyu on Thursday said despite the crisis that has plagued the ruling People?s Democratic Party (PDP) that has led to string of defections to other parties, the party will overcome the crisis and win the 2015 presidential election.

Aliyu speaking at the presentation of take off grants to beneficiaries of Subsidy Reinvesting Empowerment Programme SURE-P said what the party needs is prayers for the party to do the right thing and for good and acceptable candidates to be nominated for the elections.

According to him “PDP shall form the next Federal Government, PDP will win the governorship election in Niger state in 2015, and we will do it by God’s guidance and by our clean minds.

“If anybody is with clean mind, God will assist the person no matter what people say. Even people who slaughter donkeys and vultures may need to go to Senegal or Mali. That is a long way to go to get these animals.

“So, whether you slaughter vultures or donkeys so that nobody will be liked, I am happy my people like me, and I can go anywhere and say ‘we did all we did with your support because we let you know what is happening and you advised’.

“A leader must be always be ready for criticisms because most times when people criticise it is because they don’t know the basis of the decision that has been taken, but if they know, they may advise on how to correct it and how to make it better. Criticism is one of the ways to make leaders be in the know.”

Aliyu admonished Nigerians to always pray for Nigeria to have good leaders ‘because when you have bad leaders the environment will be saturated with bad people?.

He told the political class in the state to be wary of those angling for political positions primarily to siphon public funds saying that we should not vote for those that wants to be ?sharing our commonwealth?.

Governor Aliyu said President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan consulted him as the leader of the party in Niger state when the recent ministerial nominee from Niger state Hajia Asabe Abubakar is to be made.

According to him “I also contacted the party in the state on the best person to be nominated for the position adding that a total of 5 nominations from the Niger state South Senatorial were received out of which Hajia Asabe was eventually picked.

Aliyu declared that “everybody is happy, the party is happy with the person we have picked, though a few people have complained about the decision taken by the party.

On the operation of SURE-P in the state the governor directed all the 25 local government areas to replicate the efforts of the state programme in order to take the empowerment programme to the grassroot.

He disclosed that the 530 Community Traffic Vanguards engaged will be given full time employment by the state government if within one year they performed their duty creditably but warned that any of them caught short changing members of the public will not only be dismissed but will be prosecuted.
