Mr. Wisdom Kwasi Zor, Presiding Member of the Pru District Assembly, confirmed the figure to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in a telephone interview on Wednesday.

Some of the recovered bodies had already been identified and collected by their families for burial.

The dead were among the about 70 passengers travelling on crowded boat from Nankyie-Akuraa and some other communities in the Volta Region to Yeji, which capsized on Sunday, May 29.

Meanwhile, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Abraham Bansa, the Pru District Commander, has cautioned boat operators not to over-load those watercrafts, to prevent accidents.

He also advised people living in communities along the lake to refuse to board over-leaded boats for their own safety.
