The outspoken National Women?s Organizer of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Anita De Soso has stated emphatically that members and sympathizers of NDC will jubilate if they won the election petition before the Supreme Court. This is in defiance to to calls from the National Peace Council (NPC) and the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) for parties in the case, to restrain their supporters from jubilating, should the verdict favour either of them. Three leading members of the New Patriotic Party ? Nana Akufo-Addo, 2012 flagbearer, Dr. Mamudu Bawumia, his running mate and Jacob Obetsebi-Lamptey, national chairman ? have petitioned the Supreme Court challenging the Electoral Commission?s declaration of John Mahama a winner of the 2012 presidential elections. The Court is set to announce a verdict by August 15, 2013, after hearing oral addresses from counsels for the petitioners and the respondents on August 7,2013. The National Organizer of NDC, Yaw Boateng Gyan had also cautioned is party supporters against indulging in excessive euphoria in case the respondents won the case, because ?jubilation could be considered as a form of ridiculing, which can incite mayhem.? Religious leaders have also advised against jubilation because it had the tendency of being divisive and inciting. But speaking on Adom TV?s Pampaso show Tuesday, Anita De Soso said no one can stop NDC members from jubilating if they the ruling goes to their favour. ?We will jubilate if we win ? the NPP cannot stop us ? we will jubilate ? if they won they should also jubilate ? this is our country and no one can prevent us from expressing our joy.? De Soso argued that the very institutions suggesting that no one should jubilate if they won, watched when the NPP jubilated over the NDC when they won the previous elections. She said the NDC is not afraid of the NPP, adding ?they [NPP] came to power through the pen but we have a history of leading a revolution so we are not afraid of them ? we are only calm because we want peace for this country.? De Soso is confident a jubilation would not affect the peace the country is enjoying, adding that the NDC leadership had cautioned its members against any misbehavior and she believes NPP had done same. She said the police had also cautioned both parties and warned that no inciting behavior would be tolerated. Meanwhile, NPP Constituency Organiser for Abokobi-Madina, Alhaji Aminu Abu said NPP is also preparing to jubilate if they were declared victors.
