The rehabilitation work on Dansoman Estates Sewerage System is expected to be completed in November 2015.

Deputy Minister  for local government  and Rural Development, Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, disclosed this on the floor Parliament today when he appeared  before the House to respond to a question filed by the Member of Parliament for the Ablekuma West constituency.

He informed members that the project which is being undertaken under the Accra Sewerage Improvement Project (ASIP)  includes cleaning and changing of all sewer lines in the vicinity.

He said the contract for the project which was signed in August 2014 between the Accra Metropolitan Assembly and Messrs China Henan International Cooperation  Group Company Ltd for am amount of US$ 17,992,270.84  covers the Dansoman Estate, especially the Zodiac Area ( Banana lane,  through the Dansoman Post Office area, first light to Anege link),  Nii Mampong Okai Area ( Datus School Community) and the Shiabu area.

He said that currently 2.8 kilometers and 13 kilometers of sewer lines have been replaced and cleaned in Dansoman area respectively.

He announced that government is currently procuring maintenance equipment for the sustainable operation and maintenance of the sewerage system in the area adding that ?there is also the intention to undertake further training of sewerage staff on operation  of the equipments?.

In a response to another question on the status of the Local Enterprise and Skills Development Programme (LESDEP) he said  the programme was currently being reviewed to determine its impact and to make it more responsive to the current skills demands of the youth.

He said it would be realigned to the Local Economic Development Policy (LED) and make the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies play a lead role in its implementation.

?As soon as the review is completed, Parliament shall be duly informed,? the deputy minister told the House.

In another development a paper on the conversation of protection of children and co-operation in respect of inter-country adoption (Hague, 29 May 1993) was laid before the House and referred to the joint committee of Foreign Affairs Gender and Social .
