Daimler Truck has signed a Letter of Intent with Senegal’s government and Global Truck Systems (GTS) to establish a truck assembly facility near Dakar, targeting production start in 2026.
The agreement designates Daimler as exclusive supplier of Mercedes-Benz CKD (Completely Knocked Down) kits and technology partner, while GTS leads operations.
The joint venture will assemble specialized trucks for Senegalese defense, police, and fire services, alongside commercial vehicles for waste management, construction, and logistics. Senegal will provide industrial land, tax incentives, and workforce training support.
Franziska Cusumano, CEO of Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks, emphasized the project’s alignment with German-Senegalese development partnerships, including climate-focused initiatives since 2023. Michael Dietz, Daimler’s MEA CEO, highlighted commitments to job creation and industrial capability transfer.
GTS will manage plant setup, personnel training, and sales. Daimler ensures supply chain reliability, quality control, and long-term service support. The initiative advances Senegal’s domestic production goals and regional mobility infrastructure.
