Fifty-five years of love

Fifty-five years of friendship

Fifty-five years of solidarity

Fifty-five years of celebration

On December 2, 1956

The Granma yacht arrived on the shores of Cuba

The Cuban Revolution started with 2 years of bloody and spirited struggle

When Ghana gained her independence on March 6, 1957

The courageous people of this small island nation were still fighting against pro-Yankee invasion and brutality

Our love soon began

When Kwame Nkrumah broke the back of America

Osagyefo defied the odds amidst sanctions against you

In 1959, the warm wind of diplomatic relations blew over Accra and Havana

Fifty-five years of love

Fifty-five years friendship

Fifty-five years of solidarity

Fifty-five years celebration

September was the month

1960 was the year

The venue was Hotel Theresa in New York

Nkrumah and Castro locked in each other?s eyes

Our love was finally and firmly cemented

On the floor of the United General Assembly

Nkrumah called for Africa to have a permanent sit at the Security Council

Foreign military and nuclear bases in Africa must go, he charged

When it got to the turn of Cuba to speak

Fidel Castro defended Ghana

Fifty-five years of love

Fifty-five years friendship

Fifty-five years of solidarity

Fifty-five years celebration

?There is also a proposal from the leader of the Ghanaian delegation which we would like to support. It is a call for all military bases and for that matter nuclear arms base, to leave African soil. It is a call for an Africa free from the dangers of an atomic war. This has already happened in the Antartic

?Why do we make progress in disarmament but cannot make progress in liberating certain parts of the world that are faced with the threat of nuclear war? If Africa experiences a renaissance, that Africa that we are all learning to know, not the Africa we know on maps, not the Africa we are made to believe in Hollywood films and novels, not that Africa with a half-naked tribesman, armed with a bow, ready to run at the first sight of the white hero, whose heroism only grew as he plundered the natural wealth of Africa. That Africa that stands here with leaders like Nkrumah and Sekou Toure or that African-Arab world under Nasser, the real Africa, the oppressed and exploited continent, the continent from which came slaves, that Africa that has so much pain in its history, that Africa to whom we owe? a duty to? protect from the danger of destruction, let?s do something for the remaining population, for all that Africa has suffered ,let?s protect it from the threat of atomic war by declaring Africa an area free of this threat and not set up atomic bases and at least allow the continent, while we cannot? do otherwise, to be a place where human life can be protected. Let us warmly support this proposal?.

Those were the warming words of Fidel Castro supporting Nkrumah?s proposals

Fifty-five years of love

Fifty-five years of friendship

Fifty-five years of solidarity

Fifty-five years of celebration

Our friendship continued to grow

When we met again in Belgrade in 1961 for the conference of the Non-Aligned Movement

Two years later, we consummated our love and gave birth to the Cuban Embassy in Accra

Comrade Armando Entralgo, the 26-year old young man headed your mission with pride

Some liberation fighters from Cuba to Africa passed through Accra

They arrived with their ammunitions through our airport

They were not checked because we had a common enemy to fight

That was how deep our friendship was

Fifty-five years of love

Fifty-five years of friendship

Fifty-five years of solidarity

Fifty-five years of celebration

They severed our love for thirteen years when they overthrew Nkrumah in 1966

But on September 1979, we found our love back again

The Cuban embassy was reopened

Thousands of your people have served in our health sector since then

You gave scholarships to our people to study in your land

Order of Jose Marti and Playa Giron you decorated Jerry Rawlings with

Order of the Militant Fraternity, Solidarity Vision and the Order of Carlos Manuel de Cespedes you gave our brave son, Captain Kojo Tsikata

For his continuous advocacy for the removal of sanctions and embargoes against Cuba and the release of the ?Cuban Five? when he was vice president, you awarded President John Mahama with the Medal of Friendship Today, Ramon, Rene Antonio, Gerardo and Fernando are free

Fifty-five years of love

Fifty-five years of friendship

Fifty-five years of solidarity

Fifty-five years of celebration

Long live this love we share

Long live this friendship we have

Long live this solidarity we give

Long live this celebration we honour

Long live Ghana

Long live Cuba

Vivaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!
