cbs-mulling-options-to-end-csi-next-season

As CBS is making decisions on the fate of its shows, ?CSI: Crime Scene Investigation? is at risk of facing the chopping block. According to Deadline, the network is considering options to cancel the long-running crime drama series.

CBS is reportedly mulling a shortened final season, which could be as short as six episodes, but nothing has been set in stone. While the rumored cancellation could be a shocker for fans, there have been signs that it could happen since the latest season was cut to only 18 episodes, the least since the 2007-08 writers strike.

Deadline compares the situation to that of ?Law & Order?, which was canceled by NBC after it had finished production on its 20th season, giving fans no closure. Should CBS give no new season to ?CSI?, the show?s fans could feel the same disappointment since the season 15 finale saw Julie Finlay (Elisabeth Shue), who was in a coma, briefly opening her eyes in the final minutes.

Once a ratings juggernaut, ?CSI? has lost more than half of its loyal viewers since the first season, though it?s still a huge seller internationally. The show has spawned three different spin-offs, with the latest one ?CSI: Cyber? being launched in March this year.
