Two journalists, Abbrey Mark , Editor for Techiman Times  a Bi-monthly private newspaper and Iddrisu Awudu alias Mighty Judah of Winners FM, Techiman in the Brong Ahafo Region were put before Techiman Circuit court for the offences of Conspiracy to commit crime and Publication of false news.

Abbrey Mark was remanded into police custody whiles bench warrant was issued for the arrest of Iddrisu Awudu who failed to appear in court.  The suspects on 12 June 20 17 published on social media (whatsApp) about kidnapping camps and ritual murders in Techiman and that they were ready to assist the Police. When they were invited for the information, they failed to assist the Police. Hence they were charged and put before Techiman Circuit Court. The case has been adjourned to 28 June 2017.

The court presided over by His Worship Alexander Graham said the accused (Abbrey Mark) failed to meet the bail requirements and therefore should be put into custody while investigations were ongoing. Mr. Abbrey, however pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Police prosecutor, Detective Inspector, B. M. Diboro in his presenting of the case told the court that on 12 June 2017, the accused persons were alleged to have said on a local radio station Winners FM that they know and will soon expose the whereabouts of perpetuators of recent unexplained deaths and the disappearances of some individuals in the Techiman Municipality. He added that they said they were willing to furnish the security with the needed information when invited. Such information was subsequently published on social media (WhatsApp-EDITORS’ FORUM). The Prosecutor noted that the said publications created fear and panic in the Municipality. “This and among other issues created disaffection for the police because the two individuals made the entire Techiman people to believe that the police know the whereabouts of these criminals and therefore were feeling reluctant in apprehending them”, he concluded.
