Confusion and vote buying appear to have rocked the ongoing council of state elections in the Ashanti region.

Ultimate News’ Isaac Justice Bediako reports that the two major contenders, the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s Mawerehene Baffour Osei Brentuo Hyiaman and the Akrofonsohene Nana Owusu Achiaw Brempong have camped the delegates lobbying for their votes.

He reports that some figures already in the public domain suggest that assembly members are receiving as much as two thousand cedis in bribes to sway their votes.

Isaac also reported that a heavy police detachment has been deployed to calm tension that are already pent up in the conference hall of the Regional Coordinating Council where the elections are taking place.

Sixteen (16) people are contesting to represent the region on the council of state after three (3) contestants took a late retreat from the contest.

Some sixty delegates from thirty assemblies are participating in the elections.
