BABA RAHMAN has staked his claim for a starting spot with Chelsea after missing out on international duty with Ghana.

The left-back has made two starts for the Blues since his ?21m move from Augsburg over the summer.

Despite the patchy form of Branislav Ivanovic, Rahman has been unable to command a starting spot with manager Jose Mourinho claiming the player is not ready to feature in his team.

?Baba Rahman arrived in the last day and he doesn?t know what it is to play in this kind of championship,? Mourinho said after Chelsea?s 3-1 defeat to Southampton last time out.

?He had no pre-season with us. He needs time to learn and adapt.

?At the same time, every team except Maccabi Tel Aviv is a team of giants. If you don?t have a minimum of five tall players good in the air, you are dead on set-pieces.

?When I play Azpilicueta on the right and Baba on the left, I have only three. So we have to think about all the details.?

But he could now be handed the chance to impress after Ivanovic was ruled out for three weeks with a hamstring injury.

The Blues defended picked up the knock playing for Serbia in their Euro 2016 qualifier against Albania.

Rahman missed out on international action, with the Telegraph reporting visa issues meant he couldn?t travel with the Ghana squad to face Canada in the USA.

The 21-year-old instead stayed at Chelsea?s Cobham training ground and training with the Blues? non-international players.
