Nangaa will take over from Apollinaire Malumalu who resigned on Oct. 10 due to health reasons.
Until his proposal for the current position, Nangaa who is a secular protestant, was serving as CENI’s deputy executive secretary.

A few hours before the announcement of Nangaa’s name, the Catholic Church in DR Congo issued a statement outlining that whoever is appointed to head CENI should be someone with unquestionable morality and a man of integrity who is capable of resisting any political pressure from any camp.

On Thursday, religious organizations are expected to hand back a report of their deliberations to the office of National Assembly president who, in return, is expected to adopt their choice.

Although Malumalu who had led CENI since 2013 resigned over his deteriorating health condition, some analysts observed that he may have decided to quit to avoid the pressure being exerted on CENI to change the electoral timetable. Enditem
