“The institute has done quite well; the directors of the institute are very dynamic and, through them, we have been able to excite many young Ghanaians to be interested in the Chinese language,” he told Xinhua in an interview.

For more than two years, the Confucius Institute has made remarkable achievements in teaching Chinese language and promoting Chinese culture.

Currently, the total number of students in the institute has already exceeded 2,000, ranging from kindergarten children to university students as well as different public groups.

With the construction of a permanent academic building, the institute has officially received the honorary title of Global Model Confucius Institute, an honor chalked by only five percent of the world’s Confucius institutes.

Aryeetey told Xinhua that the construction of the new building “will see many Ghanaians benefit from learning Chinese language and also the Chinese culture.”

The two-storey building will have facilities such as multimedia classrooms, language laboratories, library, seminar rooms, offices and a 250-seater auditorium, among others.

Besides Chinese language, the institute also aims to teach vocational techniques for Ghananian students who want to be tourist guide, traditional Chinese doctors and electricians. Enditem
