Dr. Hope Eghagha, the Delta state commissioner for Higher Education

The Commissioner for Higher Education in Delta state, who also is a former lecturer at the University of Lagos, Dr. Hope Eghagha was kidnapped on Sunday morning along the Agbor/Abraka Road, between Agbor and Abavo by unknown gunmen.

Delta Police Spokesman, Mr. Muka said that Eghagha was trailed by his kidnappers from Warri as he made his way to Asaba, the state capital, presumably to attend Nigeria’s 52nd Independence Day celebrations.

Muka further said the gunmen opened fire on his vehicle, killing his police orderly instantly, while his driver also sustained bullet wounds.

Eghagha was taken away as they fired sporadically into the air.

The gunmen have not made contact with his family or the state government.
