Mr. Stephen Asare, the newly-inducted Chairman of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), Ghana Branch, has stated that whilst financial reporting is a widely acknowledged role of Accountants, there is an equally important aspect of accountancy that deals with the critical issues that drive performance before they are reported.

These issues fall within the roles performed by Management Accountants of which CIMA members are sufficiently well-equipped to deliver.

He said this in accepting the leadership mantle of the Branch during the induction ceremony for the new executive of the local Branch committee in Accra.

Other members of the Branch executive committee are Augustine Kessie, Deputy Chairman; Macgeorge Gyimah, Secretary; Stella Oye, Deputy Secretary; Moses Temanu, Publicity Secretary; Reine Larbi-Tieku, Member; and Noah Adablah, Student Representative.

Mr. Jonas Quaye, the outgoing Chairman of the Branch, enumerated the significant achievements of the Branch during the tenure of the past executives — such as the establishment of the CIMA Country Office in September 2010, the result of which has led to an increase in the number of CIMA students in Ghana from 256 to over 700 currently, the highest growth achieved in any branch in the African sub-region.

He also drew attention to the elevated standing of the Ghana Branch within CIMA globally. This is reflected in the visit for the first time to Ghana of the CIMA Global President, Harold Baird; the representation of Ghana on the Global Markets Committee (the second-highest decisionmaking body of CIMA after Council); and the election of a Ghanaian to the restructured African Regional Board.

He therefore challenged the new executives to build on this solid foundation, and together with the Country Office move CIMA in Ghana to the next level.

Mr. Stephen Asare, the new Chairman, accepted this challenge by stating that the vision of the new executive is to secure the elevation of the Country Office to a Regional Office that will oversee the affairs of CIMA in the West African sub-region.

The Chairman for the occasion, Mr. J. B. Winful, urged CIMA members together with other professionals to actively contribute to the formulation and implementation of public policy in Ghana, thus enabling the nation to benefit immensely from their diversity of skills and competencies. These sentiments were re-echoed in fraternal messages delivered by representatives of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana, and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants who were present at the induction ceremony.

Rev. Michael Evans Boahen, Senior Pastor of the Charity Assembly of God Church, Adentan, dedicated the new Executives to God after they were sworn in by Justice Anthony Oppong, a judge of the High Court.  Mr. Ray Ankrah, ACMA, CGMA administered the Charge of Office to the new officers.
