Chad’s health ministry confirmed four deaths from a cholera outbreak at the Dougui refugee camp in Ouaddai province.
At least 42 suspected cases have been recorded, with samples sent to N’Djamena for laboratory verification.
Health authorities issued urgent calls for heightened hygiene vigilance to contain the spread in the camp, which shelters roughly 20,000 Sudanese refugees. The outbreak highlights critical public health risks in overcrowded displacement sites.
The World Health Organization (WHO) warned in June that Sudan’s escalating cholera crisis threatened neighboring countries. Chad currently hosts hundreds of thousands of refugees fleeing Sudan’s civil war, many residing in densely populated settlements with limited sanitation infrastructure.
