Visiting Chinese vice commerce minister Qian Keming said that Namibia has great potential in the tourism industry.

Qian who was leading a delegation from China in Namibia on Wednesday, when acquainting himself with Namibia’s Deputy Minister of Economic Planning, Lucia Iipumbu, said that tourists from China in their numbers can boost the sector exponentially.

During their discussion, Iipumbu highlighted the areas and fields where tourism in Namibia has great potential and also pointed out the benefits from the cooperation with China on new and existing projects.

Earlier in August, Chinese Ambassador to Namibia, Zhang Yiming also echoed similar sentiments and said Namibia’s tourism sector in the near future can be one of the strong pillars of economic growth in the country after the mining and fishing sectors.

Meanwhile, Namibia’s Deputy Minister of Environment and Tourism, Tommy Nambahu looks forward to strengthening relations in the tourism sector with China and suggested plans to boost the sector to lure more Chinese visitors.

“Teaching Mandarin to our tour guides for better communication can play to our advantage as this can lure more Chinese tourists in the country,” he said.

Nambahu went on to extend an invitation to the visiting Chinese delegation to tour some of the tourist areas in the country before they conclude their visit on Nov. 17. Enditem
