The completion of water supply reticulation system at Kafulafuta dam in Masaiti district in Zambia by China National Complete Engineering Corporation will benefit thousands of small-scale farmers and reduce erratic water supply in four districts of the Copperbelt Province, a Government official said here on Tuesday.

Patrick Maipambe, Luanshya District commissioner, has expressed happiness with the works being carried out by the Chinese firm, which has been contracted to improve water reticulation system in Luanshya, Ndola, Mongwe and Masaiti.

The Chinese firm is constructing the dam at a total cost of 450 million U.S. dollars.

“So far the firm has done great works, the dam is being constructed in Kafulafuta which will also benefit over 13,000 farmers in the area,” Maipambe said.

In an interview with Xinhua, Maipambe said the company has so far laid up water pipes from Kafulafuta dam passing through to Ndola.

The District Commissioner said the water project has a lot of scopes of work ranging from engineering to service provision.

“I am blessed that I have a job with the Chinese, I have learnt a lot of skills, Chinese are a hard-working people,” said Shadreck Mwewa, one of the youths working for the Chinese firm.

He said hard working is needed in Zambia, adding that young people should stop blaming the Chinese investors instead they should strive to mingle and work with them and learn skills from them.

Kafulafuta water supply system will be fully completed in 2020. Enditem
