Supt. Cephas Arthur

The Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Police Service (GPS) Supt Cephas Arthur has assured that police officers will not in anyway be influenced in their line of duty by the donation by the Chairman of the Chinese Association in Ghana.

Speaking with Ultimate Breakfast Show hosted Lantam Papanko, he called on the public to desist from creating a fuss about the donation.

Supt Arthur explained that the Chairman of the Association donated the money towards a building project after a call by the police administration to corporate institutions.

‘Is that what people are making so much fuss about? two, we are saying this is not the Chinese association giving us the money, it is Mr Tang Hong who is the CEO of CAITEC group of companies a very big company which deals in automobiles and other goods. He out of his own personal volition donated the money to the police towards the building project. Three, it is not as if the man was sitting his somewhere and planned that oh let me go and influence the police so that as a Chinese when any of nationals is doing something wrong,  the police would not have anything to do, they would have their hands tied,’ he explained.

Chinese mining companies in the country have been blamed over the years for engaging in ‘Galamsey’ destroying water bodies.

The police administration was heavily criticised for receiving money from the Chinese Company, a situation many have said will prevent the police from clamping down on illegal Chinese miners.

According to him, this is not the first time the owner of CAITEC is donating to the police administration asking if other nationals cannot donate to State institutions.

‘…The first one was about some 12 motor bikes that he donated to the Police and that was about 2 years ago when the community police unit needed the motor bikes, so they made the donations to aid the community unit perform their duties of patrolling to keep the community safe,’ he recalled.

The PRO of Police Service said they will not hesitate to deal with Chinese caught engaging in criminal activities.

‘It is not about police taking money from the Chinese and saying that hey Chinese, now when you are caught in any criminal act we cannot deal with you because you have given us 50000 old cedis,’ he warned.
