Gas Pipeline

A Chinese petroleum and gas company will fund pipeline construction for an amount of 1.3 million U.S. dollars in Benin to enable oil and gas import from petroleum producing Niger, according to a release from the Ministry of Water and Mining that reached Xinhua on Sunday.

China National Oil and Gas Exploration and Development Company LTD, the Chinese company, will wholly finance the project for an amount of 1.3 million U.S. dollars, following partnership agreement reached with the government of Benin, the release said.


The Water and Mining minister said that “this project stands as the largest private direct investment since Benin gained independence and it will create over 3,000 jobs during construction phase and 300 to 500 permanent jobs in the operation phase”.

According to the document, the project is about the construction of about 687 km portion of pipeline in Benin, out of a total of 2,085 km long network from Niger.

The whole pipeline should enable the neighboring petroleum producing Niger to firstly export oil and gas to Benin and, later, to the international market. Enditem
