Eleven students from Highline Secondary School, situated in Katutura, a township of Namibian capital Windhoek, became the first recipients of the Chinese Ambassador Scholarship Fund, which was launched on Thursday in Windhoek.

The fund was launched with a boost of 25,650 U.S. dollars (330,000 Namibia dollars) courtesy of the Chinese Embassy in Namibia.

Acting to Charge d’ Affairs at the Chinese Embassy in Namibia, Li Nan at the event said “the fund is solely provided for the purpose to reward students of Highline Secondary School with outstanding performances from this year on, aiming to encourage every student to study hard to make progress every day.”

The eleven students received cash incentives that totalled to 1,909 U.S. dollars.

Khomas Regional Governor, Laura McLeod-Katjirua, in a speech delivered by her Special Advisor, Rosalia Sibiya said that the scholarship fund which will be an annual event will go very far with the assistance of the students financially. Enditem
