“During the World War II, China was the first country to combat fascist forces and its fight lasted the longest with the heaviest sacrifice and losses. Every year, China commemorates the victory of Anti-Japanese War in various forms to remember the history, commemorate martyrs, cherish world peace and look to the future. On each quinquennial and decennial anniversary, events of greater scale are held,” the Chinese minister told the press here after meeting with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov.
“The year of 2015 is of historic significance as it marks the 70th anniversary of the victory of WWII,” Wang said. “Drawing on the experiences of many countries including Russia, China has for the first time invited foreign leaders and all peace-loving people to the country to celebrate this great event, which will make the remembrance more open and more international. We appreciate that leaders of Russia and other countries have shown their support to the event and expressed their wish to attend.”
Noting that China and Russia, as two main battlefields in Asia and Europe 70 years ago, had made enormous contributions to the peace of mankind, Wang said the two countries, as comprehensive strategic partners, will work together to make new contributions to enduring peace in the world.
