They said the internal investigation looked like a cover-up and called for an independent audit.

?I am the head of the audit committee within Nacada. There are very many questions that have been raised with the management of public funds within Nacada. I see so many irregularities. The Public Procurement and Oversight Authority has questioned some of the tenders. It is as if people do not understand that this is public money and it is a sin to siphon taxpayers? funds,? said Mr Ngao.

He said records and reports cannot be trusted unless verified by a reputable independent auditor.

?I am the youngest board member and I know that I am the least educated. But I am not stupid. When non-governmental organisations show zero in their returns, and yet Nacada said money was disbursed, it means that money was stolen,? said Jaguar, as he too backed an independent audit.

The duo said the board and the managers had to be kicked out for the books for Nacada to be audited to establish the depth of the malfeasance.

?We all have to step aside to allow for investigations,? said Ngao.

As the board members raised hell, Nacada?s Chief Executive William Okedi, who had submitted the report, turned around and blamed his woes on Mututho. He accused the former Naivasha MP of trying to have him fired.

MPs listened as the officials of an organ that is supposed to fight the alcohol and drug abuse menace in the country, washed their dirty linen in public. Committee Chairman Asman Kamama (Tiaty) called for a ceasefire in the boardroom wars.

?Why should it take MPs to do your job? A drinking nation is a sinking nation,? said Mr Kamama.
