Chelsea joins Madrid in last eight

Chelsea fought back from their first- leg 3: 1 defeat to overcome Napoli in extra- time and Real Madrid cruise over a less powerful CSKA Moscow side as the line- up for Champions League quarter finals was completed on Wednesday. Branislav Ivanovic’s 105 minute strike handed Chelsea a 5: 4 aggregate success following a 4: 1 win at Stamford Bridge in the last- 16 second leg.

The Blues took the lead through Didier Drobga in the 29th minute before skipper John Terry nodding home the second. Gokhan Inler’s superb strike on 55th minute rejuvenated the qualification hopes of the Italians but a Frank Lampard penalty 15minutes from time sent the thrilling game into extra time before defender Ivanovic striked the winner.

Real Madrid were home and dry as they beat Russian side CSKA Moscow by 4: 1 which earned them a 5: 2 aggregate courtesy goals from Gonzalo Higuain, a Cristiano Ronaldo’s brace a goal from Karim Benzema were enough to seal victory for Real as Zoran Tosic goal for the Russians served as a mere consolation.

The pair(Chelsea and Real) joins Barcelona, AC Milan, Bayern Munich, Olympique Marseille and APOEL Nicosia. The last eight draw is scheduled for Friday March 16.
