Hajia Mary Nakobu, District Chief Executive (DCE) for Chereponi in the Northjern Region, has called on the various interest groups in the district to close their ranks and work as a team towards addressing the numerous challenges confronting the Assembly.

She said , ?Chaos, rancour, acrimony, antagonism, greed and apathy can only destroy a nation?, and called on the people to turn away from such attitudes and forge ahead in unity to build a better and prosperous society.

Hajia Nakobu made the call when addressing a parade of pupils and students during the 57th Independence Day anniversary celebration in the district at Chereponi near Yendi.

The event was also attended by chiefs and people of the Traditional Area, leadership of various political parties in the district and people from all walks of life.

She noted that the district was confronted with a number of development challenges such as lack of potable water and inadequate educational facilities, among others, which required hard work to address and called on all to join hands towards improving the situation.

She stressed: ?That is why it is important for all of us to eschew partisanship, religious and ethnic biases and forge ahead in unity and peace for greater national development.?

Hajia Nakobu, therefore, called on residents to expose persons bent on fomenting troubles since such acts tended to derail the development efforts of the Assembly.

She said her administration was working to come out with result-oriented measures aimed at improving the quality of education in the district to ensure that students and pupils performed better in their final examinations.

She announced that the recent decision by the authorities of the Chereponi Senior High School to withdraw some students from the boarding house because of inadequate infrastructural facilities had been reversed and affected students would be recalled.

Mr Azumah Namoro Sanda, Member of Parliament for Chereponi lauded the development initiatives taking place in the district but expressed worry over the economic situation of the people, which he said was making life unbearable for the constituents. GNA
