We, the members of the Ghana Catholic Bishops? Conference, have received with great sadness and shock, the sudden death of Mr. Paul Victor Obeng, Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission and Chief Presidential Advisor.wpid-pv-obeng.jpg

The late P.V. Obeng can be described as a true statesman and a faithful (Catholic) Christian, who put his knowledge, talents and expertise at the service of his Nation and church. He distinguished himself in all the portfolios that he held in his political life, namely Presidential Advisor on Governmental Affairs, Chairman of the Committee of Secretaries, Chairman of the Ghana Investment Promotion Council, among others.

His distinguished and excellent political career encouraged the Diocese of Obuasi to request a Papal Award for him which was generously granted by Emeritus Pope Benedict XVI in February 2009.

During this period of sadness and mourning, our thoughts and prayers are with his wife and family and all who were dear to him.
While praying earnestly to God for the repose of his gentle soul, we wish to invite all politicians and the young people of Ghana, especially those who aspire to enter into politics, to emulate the virtues that the late P.V. Obeng espoused, namely, sacrifice, honesty, excellence and statesmanship.
We pray that God will console his dear wife, family and friends and grant him eternal rest.
