Rice Mill

Felix Kehi, the Coordinator of Federal Ministry of Agriculture in Delta, said that the Federal Government had concluded plans to establish two cassava-processing and one rice-processing mills in the state this year. He said this in an interview in Asaba.

Kehi also said that the Federal Government, through the ministry, would train more than 500 youths in different crop value chains which the state had identified, adding that the Federal Government would also train 20 youths in the cultivation of “Terfaria?? leaves (Ugu vegetable).

Kehi stressed that each of the mills had the capacity of processing 20 tonnes of cassava or rice per hour, adding that the mills would enable the farmers to process their produce after harvest to avoid waste.

He said that the cassava mills would be located in Imbiri, Ika North East Local Government Area and Abraka, Ethiope East Local Government Area, while the rice-processing mill would be sited in Agbarho, Ughelli North Local Government Area.

According to him, the project sites had been mapped out in the areas, adding that the Abraka project would start this January, while the ones in Imbiri and Agbarho would commence after the resolution of some disputes.
