By appointing J-P Akono to the head of the Lions, the Cameroonian Minister of Sports has overriden the Cameroonian Football Federation ? F?cafoot?s ? authority.

While Denis Lavagne?s fate seemed pretty much sealed after the ruin of his team in Praia against Cape Verde in the first leg of the last round of Afcon 2013 qualifiers, the Federation had decided to replace the French technician with the coach of Union de Douala, Bonaventure Djonkep.

But those who thought themselves to be the decision-makers of Cameroonian football were quickly overridden by the Minister of Sports, Adoum Garoua.

?On the decision of the Minister of Sports and Physical Education made public on Thursday evening, Jean-Paul Akono is the new coach of the Indomitable Lions, replacing the suspended Denis Lavagne,? was published on the institution?s website.

It is however clearly stipulated in the general provisions of the FIFA statutes that its members have the obligation

?to manage their affairs independently and ensure that their own affairs are not influenced by any third parties?. And that violation of this instruction ?may also lead to sanctions, even if the third-party influence was not the fault of the Member concerned?.

The Cameroonian Federation and its president Mohamed Iya, totally short-circuited by the State in this affair, now find themselves in a very uncomfortable position towards the international body, which could decide to sanction Cameroon for interference by a third-party in the business of one of its members.

Things do not seem to be looking up for an already troubled Lions team?
