Cameroon’s national men’s football team head coach, Marc Brys, resigned Wednesday citing significant contract violations.

The Belgian submitted his resignation letter directly to Sports Minister Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, attributing his departure to unpaid salaries for himself and his technical staff.

Official correspondence indicates Brys claimed non-payment of wages for over 60 days. “Due to the non-payment of my salary and that of my staff for more than 60 days,” Brys wrote, urging the minister to ensure prompt settlement “to avoid litigation.” He formally declared his resignation effective immediately.

This development follows Brys’s controversial appointment in April 2024, which occurred amidst public disagreement between the Ministry of Sports and the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT), led by Samuel Eto’o. The federation initially expressed surprise at the ministry’s unilateral selection of Brys. Tensions surrounding his tenure and authority persisted throughout his brief stint.

The Cameroon Football Federation has not issued an official statement regarding Brys’s resignation or the specific allegations of unpaid wages. His departure creates immediate uncertainty for the Indomitable Lions, leaving the head coach position vacant ahead of upcoming international fixtures and qualifying campaigns.
