Cameroon President Paul Biya met on Monday with Baltasar Engonga Edjo, Equatorial Guinean minister in charge of regional integration, to discuss the latest development of regional integration within the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC).

“Regional integration in the sub-region is progressing positively,” Edjo told reporters after meeting with Biya in Cameroon’s capital, Yaounde, stressing that Equatorial Guinea will contribute “strongly” to its accomplishment.

“Equatorial Guinea cannot work independently, we cannot be isolated. We need to work as a group. Be it decisions, behavior, applications, all provisions should be taken as a group. Right now the application (of regional integration) is total in all the states,” he added.

Edjo was also “bearer of a fraternal message” from the Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, the president of Equatorial Guinea, Biya tweeted on Monday.

CEMAC is made up of six countries: Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon and Republic of the Congo. CEMAC has been struggling to accelerate the implementation of community projects in order to enhance regional integration but lacks funding. Enditem
