The Confederation of African Football (CAF) on May 23, 2012 revealed that about 6.6 million persons watched the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) 2012 on television.

“An estimated record of 6.6 billion cumulative TV viewers have followed the most prestigious African Sport event with 87072 hours of TV exposure, adding 59965 hours of TV to the figure that was reached in Angola 2010,” the continent’s football governing body said on its website.

The Afcon 2012 was co-hosted in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

CAF was confident that there will be record-breaking at the 2013 edition of the competition to be held in South Africa.

“We are quite confident that we will break new records for the coming edition in South Africa next year” CAF Marketing & TV Director, Amr Shaheen said.

International French based marketing company SPORTFIVE is the exclusive agency appointed by CAF to commercialize the sports marketing rights of most of the African football events.
