Business activities were disrupted in northeast Kenya as dawn-to-dusk curfew announced by Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet took effect on Friday evening following the killing of 148 lives in Garissa .

Few shops which reopened for business transaction on Friday morning hurriedly closed business by 5:00 p.m. in the town.
Traffic flow was also disrupted in the town, most major roads were closed by military officers.
Announcing the restrictions on night movement, Boinnet said the directive will remain effective until 16th of this month, adding that the move is aimed at addressing the prevailing insecurity in the northeastern region.
The directive will be enforced accordingly to the Garissa, Wajir and Mandera counties in northeastern region and the neighboring Tana-River County in the coast region.
Majority of the local residents welcomed the move, but asked the curfew time to be adjusted.
“We support the initiative, but my fear is that at long run it may become unpopular since it denies Muslims to have their night prayers at Mosque,” Said Hussein Abdullahi an elder in Garissa.
Muslim pray five times a day, of which two fall under the time of the imposed curfew. Enditem
