The Burundian Senate on Tuesday passed a bill in a plenary session in the capital city Bujumbura on the ratification of Burundi’s membership to the International Solar Alliance (ISA).

The bill had been passed at the lower chamber the National Assembly before and will be promulgated by the Burundian president before going into force.

Membership to the ISA will bring a solution to the energy shortage that the country faces, said Come Manirakiza, Burundian energy and mining minister, at the plenary session.

Burundi’s rural areas that do not have access to hydro-power electricity will be able to get photovoltaic solar energy, said Manirakiza.

The ISA was set up to provide a dedicated platform for cooperation among solar resource-rich countries. Enditem
