Mediators or ombudspersons from at least 11 countries Thursday began a two-day conference in the Burundian capital Bujumbura to seek ways of “creating peace” in Africa and Burundi.

At the launch of the conference, Burundian Second Vice-President Joseph Butore highly appreciated achievements of the Burundian ombudsman in solving conflicts and in initiating dialogue between political leaders to prevent conflicts.

Chairperson of the African Ombudsman and Mediators Association (AOMA) Fozia Amin, also Ombudsman of Ethiopia, said the conference aims to look at ways of creating peace on the African continent in general and in particularly in Burundi.

“Peace is not a ready-made thing. It takes a process to get it. We are here to create peace in Africa and in Burundi,” said Amin.
